When I lived in Chicago with my parents, I had to share a bedroom with my sister. We both had our own wardrobe and our own collection of shoes, not to mention all of the other piles of books and keepsakes that we had to find somewhere to store. It was my sister’s idea to go and find some bedroom closet organizers and some containers that would fit under our beds for other things. I thought it was a brilliant idea, and told her we should also buy a bookshelf to share and keep all of our books on it. Our room was definitely big enough to fit a nice tall bookshelf. We were both very excited about the idea. We went shopping and looked at some things that we could store our shoes in, and then we looked into buying containers to store our other personal knick-knacks. She thought we should just buy some plastic bins and store our things on the top shelf in those, but I absolutely did not want them. I figured if we’re going to do it, we may as well drop a few extra bucks and get some nice quality containers that weren’t see-through. They would ultimately make the closet look more organized in my opinion. So in the end, we both got our own organizers as we had planned to; she got the plastic ones and I spent extra money on these beautiful wooden storage cases.
ALTERNATIVES
Joe was desperate. He tried every thing that came along. He tried Rogaine. He tried scalp massages. He tried using special shampoos. He tried every type of thing you could find in the alternative cure books, and nothing really made a difference. He tried the worst and best treatments. To me, he didn't look that thinning. But I guess when he looked in the mirror he saw something different. Just like I can look in the mirror and find things that nobody else would notice. He finally went with hair follicle transplants. He did this while he was supposed to be on vacation. The story he invented when he got back was that his scalp had gotten sunburned in Cancun. He wore a dew rag to cover up the small incisions that were made to implant the individual hair follicles. He wore this for several weeks. Finally, he came back with it off after the long holiday weekend. It didn't look that much different. Because I was in on the secret he asked me how it looked. I told him. Actually, I stretched the truth a bit and told him his hair looked much fuller than before. He believed me and was happy. His hair did look a little fuller.
QUESTIONNAIRE
What a bummer, I was under the impression that because I wasn’t too old and in reasonably good health that I would have no problems getting the treatment I wanted. I spent the last few weeks researching all of the available options to find the absolute best center to get Lasik in Washington only to find that it was all a big waste of my time. I didn’t realize that there were so many things involved in determining whether or not someone was a good candidate for the procedure. Apparently I have two strikes against me – firstly I’m a diabetic, and secondly my eyeglass prescription has changed in the last year. During a consultation at the eye care center I had selected, I filled out a standard questionnaire, on which I listed the fact that I had diabetes and the fact that my prescription had change recently. The doctor informed me that, though these conditions didn’t necessarily mean that I wouldn’t be able to get the surgery, he wanted to see the results of a full eye exam from my optometrist and the results of a physical from my regular doctor. I was momentarily disappointed, but figured that there was still a chance I would get the operation. My diabetes is well under control, so that didn’t end up being of much concern, but my eye exam revealed that my vision wasn’t stabilized enough for the procedure. They told me that this doesn’t necessarily mean that I can never get the surgery, just that I’ll be stuck with the glasses for the foreseeable future.
WORKMANS COMP
I got hurt on the job about two weeks ago and at first my boss was being very nice about it, “What can we do for you? Whatever you need, you let us know,” were phrases that I was hearing on a daily basis. When my back didn’t get any better and my doctor suggested that I get the paperwork to file for workman’s compensation, that’s when he stopped being so nice. He told me that I was faking, that I’d probably been faking all along, that I was going to be sorry. I went out that evening and paid a visit to the very best personal injury attorney in Arizona. My brand new counsel informed me with great confidence that it was my boss who was going to be sorry, because we had documentation from my doctor, from a specialist and we were going to get me examined by his doctor. He told me that two expert opinions confirming injury are very difficult to argue with, but three expert opinions are nearly impossible. He even made mention of suing for addition pain and suffering caused by the defamatory and hurtful remarks that suggested I was lying to benefit financially. I really hadn’t intended on going that far, but I guess there’s a reason that they call this guy the best, and I might as well take what I can get.
FOCUS GROUP
Recently, my mother has been fed up with being a stay-at-home mom now that both of her kids are away at college. She has been participating in several focus groups that pay her money just for going in and answering questions. When I talked to her the other day, she had just gotten back from one such focus group that discussed diabetes insulin care. She said that the questions seemed random, and she was not sure how whatever she did was going to help whatever they were trying to accomplish by having a focus group. I told her that as long as she answered the questions honestly, it probably did not matter whether or not she understood why they were asking her those questions. She agreed, and started to tell me about my dog. She said that Sami was hanging in there, but that she was getting old and was noticeably much less mobile than she used to be. My mom said that she had been having trouble getting up and down the stairs, and that she could not get into the car as easily as she used to. She complained about the extra work that the dog was causing her, and I joked that I would remember that sentiment when she was older.
RADIOACTIVE MACHINE
Well, I guess it had to happen sooner or later, my aunt Clara’s vision is starting to go. I noticed it was harder for her to read, especially when she would be over at my nieces’ house reading them bedtime stories. Which is especially too bad, because she has a beautiful reading voice. But Aunt Clara’s lived with us for six years since Uncle Herb died and my folks have been essentially taking care of her. So they brought her to their eye doctor and he recommended that she get lasik eye surgery. This is something to do with lasers, I’m sure. They have this radioactive machine that probes into your eyes and supposedly gets rid of all the bad stuff making it hard for you to see. I’m sure there’s all these scientific terms for all of that, but I don’t know. I was an English major. Why am I still living with my mother and father? Well, that’s another story, but I’m engaged to be married to an English literature professor at DePaul—enough said. I’m going to be driving Aunt Clara to the surgery and my dad will be picking her up, which is only fair since she’s from HIS side of the family. My sister’s kids wanted to come and see her, but Linda explained to them that Auntie Clara’s only going to be there for one morning and then she’ll be coming right back home. The younger girl said, “Oh, then she isn’t sick!” My nieces are so cute.

Our storytelling faculty comes into play not only when we speak, but also when we read, which means that our brains are unconsciously seeking a well-told story in every kind of writing—whether it be a business proposal, or an academic essay on the Great American Novel. Success is the result of planning, not only your goals but also your time, and implementing a routine, scheduling actions and tasks is the right method for small business time management.
Another thing not to do when projecting your business finances is to spend a lot of time refining the forecast. Don't allow the planning process of a business meeting to drain you before you even make it to your event. Our modern world of computer and electronic communication, like the Internet and the use of e-mails, has made a striking difference in our use of business letters, as information now can be send quicker and at less cost than in the past.
It is time for reflection and for some successful thinking. So, again, we come back to our brain’s need for meaning and connection. Once the customer experiences the difference, they will see our point and know that an 'express detail' is merely a glorified wash with a hand wax, some extra dressings, and perhaps carpet cleaning thrown in for good measure.
